Hi! Hi! Hello Friends! *insert tik tok video greeting*
I am definitely late on the weekly post. Sorry about that. I have had a lot going on and I have kind of been in a resting/lazy period. But I am getting back to business! It's Sunday as I am typing this so I consider this my first productive author/business related activity to get back into the swing of things. I have much to share with you all today. Updates on my life, work, and my first book event! All of this will lead up to the title, I promise. Just go along with me, please? I won't take up too much of your time. You Ready? Let's go!
First topic: Life/Work
I don't know if I ever officially told you all what I do outside of being an author, so I will finally tell you. I work at Target! Surprise! It's probably not the most epic or cool thing, but it pays the bills. I was a regular style consultant up until January 19th. I was promoted to a Specialty Sales Team Lead and I was transferred to another store. I am actually really proud of myself. I worked really hard for this opportunity. I started in style in June of 2024, so to be promoted as quickly as I was and to have the support of the leadership that I was under means a lot to me.
This new role is teaching me a lot and I am still learning. I have been at my new store for almost a week. Monday the 10th will make it a week, actually. And I am hopeful. Really hopeful. My new coworkers have welcomed me and so far all of my team has been great to me. I can't complain actually. The money is nice. I must admit. I can actually breathe and save. Getting a car actually feels attainable now. Getting my own place feels attainable now. I am thankful and feel very blessed for the opportunity. Last year was really difficult financially for me and my family, but I have seen God be Jehovah Jireh (the Lord our provider). I am thankful. I truly am.
I have these moments where I sit in awe of God and even as imperfect and inconsistent as I am, God still loves me and cares enough about me to make sure that myself and everything attached to me are taken care of. It is a testament to God's faithfulness. That is why I believe in Him truly and authentically. God has given me a lot of peace this month. A lot of signs that things will be okay. The timing of everything has been so strategic and it feels purposeful. I will show you why. Just follow me to the next section of this blog.
Second topic: Author Life/Book Event
I had my first book event of 2025! My first book event ever! On January 25th, I went to Greensboro, North Carolina to speak and promote my book the wonderful book club called Triad Book Lovers. A beautiful all woman book club filled with so much love, diversity, personalities and different walks of life. Mothers, wives, single women, college women, you name it! They are all there! Walking into the cafe that the event was held at, you could immediately feel the love. There were so many smiles. So much laughter. So much joy. There were little ones running around, even a little newborn baby made an appearance! Everyone was so welcoming and kind to me. Everyone was so beautiful. I am still gushing about it, weeks later.
I am gushing about it not just because of the beautiful women and the love, but for the first time I saw a glimpse of what I believe is a part of my purpose on this Earth. I saw in real time how everything I have gone through in life has been on purpose. Even the heartbreak and sadness. My own struggles with my mental health and emotional health. I believe I understand the saying 'your testimony isn't for you, it's for someone else'. One profound interaction really showed me that God can put you in the right place at the right time. To use little ol' imperfect me to tell other women that you can make it. That healing is possible. To encourage women that they can step into their power and be authentically themselves. He used little ol' me to reflect His love and goodness in the world.
It was confirmation that I am on the right path. Even when the path gets murky, it gets unsteady, it gets shaky and even when I get tired or fall short, I am on the right path. I have to stay the course. I have to see this journey till the end. It rejuvenated me honestly. Knowing that there are strangers out there who have my book and enjoyed it and liked it and they are rooting for me, it did something to my heart. Seeing people come up with my book and me signing it and writing personalized messages. It did something to my heart. I envisioned things like this when I was a little girl. Even as I reflect on it now, I feel energized and motivated.
Those women will never know how much they impacted me and how special they are to me. Not only as an author, but as a woman. As a believer too. God used them to get a message to me as well. Which leads me to the title of this blog.
Everything won't always make sense. Hell, it very rarely makes sense. But it is a part of the journey. Everything that we encounter, everyone that we encounter has a purpose. Sometimes, we aren't going to see it immediately. Honestly its rare that you will see it immediately. It may take some time. A few years, a few months, etc. If I am honest, there may be small clues along the way. But you may be so caught up in living and what's happening that you might miss it. Slow down a little bit. Take a breather, so you can take it in. Be aware of what's happening in the present. Don't get so caught up in the future that you miss the right now. (This goes for me as well!)
I promise you're on the right path. And if you aren't just yet, don't worry you didn't miss your chance. You didn't miss your opportunity. Just readjust. Get better. Take care of yourself. Do right by yourself. Give yourself grace. Even the wrong turn will get you to your destination. Think of life like a GPS. You take a wrong turn, the GPS reroutes you. You're still getting to the destination, right? You are okay. You will be okay. Breathe. A detour doesn't stop you from getting to your destination either. Just slows you down a bit, if that. Learn along the way. You're gonna need those lessons when you get to where you're supposed to be. I promise you're on the right path. I pray that if you're looking for a sign or praying that God tells you something or that He gives you clarity, I hope you get something from this blog today.
I promised I wouldn't take too much of your time, so I will end it here. As always, if you've read this far. Thank you. Thank you a million times over. Thank you times infinity. If you're in the Triad area of North Carolina and you're looking for community and you love reading and all things bookish then I highly recommend Triad Book Lovers. The creator of the club and I went to school together and she's been watching me all these years, so a special shout out to Mary for that as well. I wish you so many blessings.
To everyone, I pray that you all be blessed and healthy. I pray you all have peace.
Be safe. Take care of yourselves. Protect each other.
